Our USA team was recently approached to help refurbish several old Varofoil fans. The fans were not only old technology – variable pitch in motion (altering the pitch of the impeller blades to adjust the performance of the fan) – they were also custom design-to-order products, built to the client’s specification.
Most modern fans have a fixed blade angle and their performance is adjusted by changing the speed at which the impeller rotates - using an inverter drive (variable frequency drive).
Rather than scrapping the entire fan – which could be costly and wasteful – we have been able to offer customers more sustainable options, with specially designed spare parts or fixed pitch angle kits along with an inverter so they maintain the flexibility of the original system.
The refurbished fans are now operational with an improved efficiency and offer reduced running costs for the end user.
Woods fans are built to last for decades, so it’s inevitable that some technology will become obsolete. But that doesn’t automatically mean the expense and potential disruption of replacing the complete fan. If you have very old fan models in place that are no longer performing as they should, we would be happy to look at refurbishment options.
Simply get in touch, sending a photo of the nameplate on the fan, and where possible we’ll see what can be done to give them a new lease of life.
