Post installation discoveries on Riyadh Metro 3 (RM3) tunnel ventilation system, urgently required multiple bespoke retrofits to ensure Woods customer ArRiyadh New Mobility (ANM), could handover a commissioned system.
Woods had to design, source, manufacture and install critical additions to the tunnel ventilation system within an unprecedented short lead time
Woods led ANM and several specialist suppliers, to ensure that multiple mechanical and electronic retrofits were delivered, installed and commissioned in record time. RCA, design and deliveries took place second half of 2023 and execution covered January to September 2024. Scale and timeframe unprecedented for such tasks on large rotating equipment.
When ANM reached out for help with RM3, Woods listened and rose to the challenge. Great pressure already existed to get the tunnel ventilation system commissioned and handed over. Though the Woods fans had been delivered tested and proven from our fully certified UK facility, a variety of problems had been discovered post installation, covering areas as diverse as mechanical alignment, to advanced instrumentation for critical safety alarms. Success was in the detail and engineers and managers from Woods, ANM and multiple suppliers united and focused to develop and execute solutions in an unprecedented timeframe.
The scale of the collaboration was so much greater than the sum of it’s parts, thanks to the openness and spirit of all involved. Woods hosted proof of concept demonstrations in our world class laboratory at the same time as deploying as many as six Service Engineers to execute solutions on site. While the Woods Service Engineers were on site, and while relaying critical daily updates for consumption, they provided training for customer technicians so that the challenge could be correctly addressed at many locations simultaneously.
Our client was blown away and offered these kind words:
"As material suppliers, you were not obligated to help us identify errors in the site related Jet fan installations. Yet, you meticulously listed all the deficiencies. Moreover, your engineers provided training to our subcontractors on how to rectify some faulty jet fan installations on-site. Wood engineers were on the scaffolding, running the fan under very difficult conditions without stopping to address any pre-maintenance or prerequisite tasks that should have been done beforehand by us or our subcontractor.
I sincerely thank you. Your engineers and teams are doing an incredible, unbelievable, and fantastic job. Words alone cannot express the support you have provided to our project. I appreciate and thank you for this collaboration. You made history. I will never forget."
Woods is delighted to receive such a commendation, with the flexibility and superb customer management skills from our Service Engineers topping a list of amazing contributions. If you have a system that's not performing as it should get in touch today.
