Damhead Creek is a highly-efficient combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) station able to produce enough power to meet the daily needs of about 450 000 homes. They needed replacement fans for Ventilation of Turbine Halls containing the Turbines.
Reliable high efficiency fans with an expected life of the previous fans – 20 years plus.
The best solution was to replace the fans but retain the existing upstands and cowls. This provided a cost benefit to the customer who wanted to stick within a budget. Replacing the cowls was both unnecessary and would have required engineering design for something already there and in excellent condition. We provided the following products:
• (6) 160JM/40/8/6/32 short case JM’s
• (2) 160JM/50/8/12/16 long case JM’s
• Complete with Bellmouth inlets, Bellmouth guards and inverters
Woods Air Movement received an order for 8 of its large 1.6m fans to replace old fans that were originally installed in the 1990’s when the station was originally built. The customer was looking for fans that would be more efficient than the current ones and last for the same number of years that the existing fans have lasted.
The new fans that Woods supplied have the latest high efficiency motors, coupled with inverter drives to enable efficient ventilation of the turbine halls. The fans were mounted on the roof with roof cowls attached. The existing cowls were still in first class condition so it was agreed that instead of 3 fans and cowls being ordered, 8 fans would be ordered and the cowls re-used.
